ABOUT

Small ‘t’ Trauma Therapy Program

This therapy program supports individuals recovering from "small 't' trauma" — the subtle, ongoing emotional injuries often rooted in early life experiences. These may include chronic invalidation, emotional neglect, fear of disapproval, conditional love, or not having your emotional needs met.

Unlike "big T" trauma (disasters, violence), small ‘t’ trauma is often less visible but just as impactful, contributing to low self-worth, shame, anxiety, emotional detachment, and perfectionism.

The goal of this program is to help you understand your emotional patterns, process unresolved experiences, and rebuild a more compassionate, regulated, and empowered sense of self.

Weeks 1–2: Emotional Awareness & Safety Building
  • Goals: Understand the impact of small 't' trauma and establish emotional safety.

  • Learn how chronic emotional neglect and subtle invalidation shape belief systems.

  • Begin grounding and self-soothing practices to regulate emotional overwhelm.

  • Normalize trauma symptoms (e.g., overthinking, emotional shut-down, shame spirals).

  • Identify core emotional pain points and triggers in a safe, supportive space.

Weeks 3–4: Naming the Wounds & Mapping Patterns
  • Goals: Explore the invisible story beneath emotional pain and maladaptive beliefs.

  • Use journaling or narrative work to describe "what didn’t happen" (unmet needs, emotional absence).

  • Begin identifying internalized messages (e.g., “I’m too much,” “I have to be perfect to be loved”).

  • Introduce CBT tools to explore and reframe distorted thinking rooted in early experiences.

  • Track emotional flashpoints (criticism, abandonment fears, rejection sensitivity).

Weeks 5–6: Trauma Processing Phase
  • Goals: Begin reprocessing emotionally stuck material with structure and support.

  • Use EMDR (if appropriate) to target repeated memories of invalidation, rejection, or emotional neglect.

  • Explore frozen grief and sadness from unmet childhood needs or relational wounds.

  • Introduce inner child work or visual imagery to deepen emotional integration.

  • Use somatic tracking to process stored body responses (e.g., tension, shutdown).

Weeks 7–8: Restructuring the Inner Voice
  • Goals: Build an internal sense of safety, support, and self-acceptance.

  • Introduce Compassion-Focused Therapy practices to counter self-criticism and shame.

  • Practice self-validation and internal boundary repair (“I don’t have to earn love”).

  • Strengthen a more compassionate, protective, and wise inner voice.

  • Replace self-attacks with regulated, supportive internal language.

Weeks 9–10: Reconnection & Resilience
  • Goals: Shift from survival patterns toward healthy relating and life engagement.

  • Use ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to clarify personal values and life direction.

  • Explore emotional intimacy, trust, and relational vulnerability.

  • Practice nervous system recovery in connection—not just solitude.

  • Begin gentle exposure to situations that previously triggered withdrawal or avoidance.

Weeks 11–12: Integration & Future-Self Work
  • Goals: Integrate healing gains, solidify identity repair, and reduce future relapse risk.

  • Reflect on core shifts in self-image, emotional regulation, and relationships.

  • Create a compassionate relapse prevention plan for future emotional setbacks.

  • Anchor your healing in personal values, not past pain.

  • Define who you’re becoming beyond trauma—resourced, connected, and whole.

Note: While this program follows a 10–12 week structure, healing from small 't' trauma is deeply individual. We will always move at a pace that honors your story, safety, and emotional readiness.
