Shame & guilt (therapy program)

1 h

Service Description

his therapy program is designed for individuals who struggle with chronic shame, toxic guilt, or harsh self-judgment—often rooted in early relationships, trauma, cultural or religious conditioning, or past choices that remain unresolved. Shame is the painful belief that “there’s something wrong with me,” while guilt is the feeling that “I did something wrong.” When either emotion becomes chronic, they can undermine self-worth, relationships, and the ability to move forward in life. Common experiences include negative self-talk, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional withdrawal, self-sabotage, or difficulty forgiving yourself. Shame and guilt often operate silently and invisibly—creating an internal sense of unworthiness or failure that can be hard to name. The goal of this program is to help you identify and reduce shame-based patterns, process unresolved guilt, and develop a more compassionate, balanced relationship with yourself and others. This therapy program draws on multiple evidence-based approaches, including: Psychoeducation about the difference between healthy guilt, toxic shame, and how both affect the brain, body, and identity. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to uncover and challenge harsh self-beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “I always mess things up.” Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to develop a kind, wise internal voice and shift from self-attack to self-support. EMDR therapy, when appropriate, to process shame-linked memories such as bullying, humiliation, rejection, or moral injury. ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to help you hold space for difficult emotions while still taking steps aligned with your values. Narrative therapy and meaning-making to reframe your story, reduce shame identity, and integrate painful experiences with dignity and growth. Please note: This is a flexible roadmap. Shame and guilt are layered and complex, and we will proceed at your pace with safety and care. Clients who complete this program often report reduced self-criticism, greater emotional freedom, healthier boundaries, and a renewed sense of inner worth.
